Read For The Record

Today is National Read For The Record Day, a national campaign where millions of individuals come together to celebrate literacy and promote early childhood education. On this single day, October 4th, people across the country are encouraged to read the children’s book Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad, by David Soman and Jacky Davis, in support of Jumpstart’s mission to work towards the day that every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.  You can read more about Read for the Record on their Web Site:

Our Library friends down in Nicaragua will use this years book as they travel out to the rural schools with the book mobile.  They will read the story and do art projects that go along with it.  We are excited to be able to participate along side the library staff when we head down to Nicaragua in February.

Our family loves The Ladybug Girl (Super Catarina en Espanol) series, and so were extra excited to find out that one of our favorite Old Town Stores was hosting a Read for the Record and book reading event today!  I got Miranda & Elaina out of school, we quick changed into our Bug Squad Costumes and headed down to Clothes Pony.  (I’ll include a link to this store just in case you aren’t from Ft. Collins.  Seriously the coolest place ever! )

JoJo, a professional story teller did a fabulous job reading this special book – and we were so excited to each play a special Bug Squad friend! Our very own LuLu was Ladybug Girl, Miranda was Butterfly Girl, I got to be Bumblebee Girl (even though in the book it is Sam who is Bumblebee Boy!), and JoJo made a perfect Dragonfly Girl! A wonderful time was had by all!

If you’ve never heard of the Ladybug Girl books before, we are thrilled to introduce you to them today!  A girl named Lulu, otherwise known as Ladybug Girl, gathers her friends Bumblebee Boy, Dragonfly Girl, and Butterfly Girl for some imaginary fun. Lulu and her friends learn about friendship, feelings, and courage.

Happy Read for the Record Day!

Click on the button under Biblioteca to go directly to the Ladybug Girl Web site! :-) Jessup might think they are a little girlie. They would be awesome for Jacey’s babysitting bag.
