Today Olivea & I joined 20 local teachers & librarians for a Cloth Book making workshop. In today’s class, we each made two cloth books. I am particularly excited about the second book I made – Bilingual about Mother Owl/Mama Buja. Tomorrow we will return for another full day where we each hope to make two additional books.
The workshop was lead by Anne Pellowski.
Anne is an author, storyteller, and consultant who feels at home in varied cultures everywhere and with people of all ages and interests. In her work as children’s librarian at the New York Public Library, Anne developed her expertise in storytelling and her research interests in storytelling and folklore. In 1966, she founded the Information Center on Children’s Cultures supported by the U.S. Committee for UNICEF and served as director until 1982. Anne’s books cover the whole spectrum of storytelling, from techniques and presentation ideas to history and research. She has taught at major universities and other educational settings where she shares her excitement and enriches our world with collections of stories from other cultures.
