I have been to Juan Paulino’s a few times now, and it never get’s old. His family has been making pottery for several generations, and he has an in-home studio and shop in San Juan de Oriente – about an hour away from where we have been living. Enjoy a little fieldtrip through our pictures!
- Foot powered wheel (This is a relative of Juan)
- Scraping it to make sure that there are no air bubbles. If there are air bubbles, it will expolde in the Kiln.
- Juan paint on a special coating – a mixture of “earth” and water.
- They make all sizes of pots
- These tiles will eventually become like….
- …these tiles
- Everything is done by hand
- They had a horse in the backyard
- Juan shows us the kiln he both made and uses for his pottery.
- The wood goes under here
- Fire Poker
- Kiln Chimney
- He lines the inside of his kiln with plates so that the fire does not directly hit his pots
- Juan has many beautiful pieces for sale in his shop at incredibly reasonable prices.
- A few of my favorites…
